I've had some experience using a ryan machine. Think it was the 'lawnaire', It was a good machine with removable weights, good soild machine. The only thing I found was on harder ground if the tines weren't sharp you didn't get much of a core. Not sure price wise, I don't think they come cheap though !

I can honestly say that these Groundsman aerators are fantastic - go for the assisted steering model if you can afford to.
I had the 460SDR - great machine and it will go into a Transit van with run-up boards.
You can make a great deal of money with one of these and in the winter too.
for larger areas i use a tractor mounted machine from john deere, hired from burdens turfleet hire,they are great suppliers.ask for mark noble (based in wokingham)
