Surely that couldn't be a coincidence. Sounds like bad fuel.
Is the fuel tank getting pressurised due to "heat" either in the Van or a broken heatshield on engine ?
are you still getting a spark? diaphram knackered? is it fitted with the spark arresting screen on the exhaust?
Certainly not bad fuel, no problems with the other machines and it's never sitting around long enough to go off! It's not been too hot recently, either.
Took the filters off to clean, as they're soaked with fuel and oil, and there's fuel running out of the carb.
do stihl carbs have needles? if so are they worn and letting fuel pass? if fuel is coming out the carb then something in the carb is blocked. time to get the carb cleaner out and blow through the jets..
how old? is choke stuck or left on? empty fuel and use correct 2 mix. are they 4-mix engines?
if so use ultra only.
has tickover tune been knocked accidently, are they 'revving; up then?
Thanks for all the replies.
With clean filtrs and a good blow through the carbs, still got fuel coming back through and flooding them. Can start from cold, but once warmed up they both start cutting out and flood when trying to restart.
Sure it's a coincidence that both have given up at the same time; they are probably 5 or 6 years old and you can't complain if machines fail at that age!
If it is the carb,I'd try a servicing kit that replaces all the parts that can cause problems..... while its completely dismantled, blow through with compressed air. If that fails, you can get a replacement carb for about £50 which will sort out the problem. I''ve used GHS spares http://www.gardenhirespares.co.uk/c/carburettors_carburettor_parts/... for carb replacements/spares in the past.
What are you basing it on that the engine is flooding? If its just that the plug is wet, it will tend to do that if you repeatedly try and start it without a spark at the plug.
Just picked them both up.
Both needed the carbs overhauling and a good tune up, other than that they seem fine. They are both, I think, 2006 machines so that's pretty good going, I bet a new one wouldn't last as long.
Had the same problem with a stihl km130r recently and it turned out to be a blocked breather on the fuel tank.
