Yes of course a reduction is different to trimming. A reduction reduces the height/width of the core hedge. Trimming only neatens it up. Trimmings are not bulky to take away but branches that have been cut off with the saw generally are so reductions not only take longer but also produce MUCH more waste.
if the lopers come out its a bit more than just a trim : )
