Hi, i am looking at buying a new hayter, has anyone used one? If so what do you think of this model?I have a very old one that i run at the moment which is about 14 years old and has seen better days. How do they pick up in the wet?Should i wait until next march? Does anyone know if hayter are going to make any changes? Many thanks

  • the old 56 had to much vibration to use commercially ,i think h.a.v limit was about 2 1/2 hours or so per day.so if you use another power tool after that, you are over your h.a.v limit. i think the new one has improved though, not sure about figures.because of its wide full width chute, its not as good picking up as the new 48,great tool, but get the pro version with extra handle supports and front bumper, shop around, should be around £750 mark
  • Hi, thanks to be honest with you had noticed the vibration was on the high side at night my right hand seems hard to clench fist.
So the 2008 hayter is a good one to get.

  • i just checked out the hayter website and the hse site.(vibration at work act 2005)
after downloading a 56 user manual to get the h.a.v figures ,the 56 has hav of 11 m/s, which according to the hse means you can use it for 1/2 an hour before taking a break etc but the most is 2hrs max per day,no other tool as the hav is cumulative.the hayter 48 on the other hand has a h.a.v of 5 m/s which has a max daily exposure of around 8 hrs,but take a break after 2 1/2 hours

http://www.hse-solutions.co.uk/docs/dlv_vpc.pdf , is a link to a h.a.v table, you an copy for yourself, but i didnt want to add it to this post without permissions.
all makers have a legal requirement as to the dealers to supply you with these figures..........apart from,as i found out, new holland........gits. if you need help finding figures for machines, give me model of machine and ill hunt around.........till i get fed up looking anyway, but i like to "google"
  • Hi Steve, thank you for your scouting around, will definetly take a look at the 48 pro. Do run those on your firm?
Amazes me that the 56 has such liitle usage time?
    Many thanks iain

  • we run 9 harrier 48, 4 of which are new,get the pro though, just for the stronger handles. we always keep a dead mower in the corner,we have saved pounds on coils/cables/pullstarts/rear rollers etc etc.
a hayter 48 bbc should be around £700/740.

i dont know why hayter still bother with the 56, maybe they dont know how long ,we,as pros can use them legally/safely .
  • Hi have found the pro 48 for £680. You would of thought that would be something a large company like hayter would consider?
  • i shall take it upon myself.that i,on monday, shall call the aforesaid company,to question them on the vibration factor of the hayter 56. i will of course endeavor to post here of my after the call.
