I did this last season... exactly this from panel van to crew cab tipper. Although I put the mower in the back where the crew cab seating was with tools above...
Bed too high to load machines on an off on what I had (Citroen Relay). Too high to climb up and down and ramps had to be very long to load ride on etc.
I ran this set up in conjunction with a truck loading towed chipper for handling hedge etc - I have now sold the truck and the shredder due to changes in the direction of the business.
We do Landscaping rather than maintenance but we run a crew cab tipper. It would definitely make you waste handling easier. Also if the rear was racked properly you could keep most things in the back safe and dry, I reckon for the bed you would have to keep the strimmer, mowers and other large bits. We also run a swb transit but thats only really for carrying tools and the odd bit of material.
