Has anyone else had this problem or know how to solve this issue for me please?

I was the top rank on my local Google search, but then I started to disappear and then reappear at random. I contacted Google and they suggested that under 'Service Areas And Location' settings that as I had ticked the 'Yes, this business serves customers at their locations' box that I also had to tick the 'Do not show my business address on my Maps listing' for my listing to stop disappearing.
I did this, and it was only a short fix which returned my website to the ranking and stayed there for a week or so before disappearing again.

My listing is 100% complete, all information is correct etc, so I do not see why I keep getting bounced when the same sites around me seem to stick.

Here's a screenshot of the part of the listing I was referring to above:

Can anyone give some help on why this is happening?

Much appreciated,
Dean.

  • I can only sympathise - we had a similar problem. Dealing with Google's arbitrary rule changes and useless customer service was a nightmare. We went from No. 1 in our area listings to nowhere for 9 months because of a rule change which they didn't tell us about. When I finally got to the bottom of the issue and waited for Google to approve our changes we went back to page 1 of the search results... For 2 months. Then another rule change and we were gone again. After that I deleted our Google+ listing and cancelled Google Adwords as well. It hasn't affected our business at all.
  • Thanks Keith.

This seems to be a major problem for many companies as I have read endless similar stories through searching on Google.

As a company trying to establish itself, I think that Google Places could be a very strong source for me getting new leads. Unfortunately though, it seems to be an issue that we can't fix ourselves.

The frustrating part of it all, is that the companies that stick, do not even have a website etc and they seem to retain their spot.

I guess I will have to accept coming and going on Google Places list. :(
