  • I have been thinking about this too.. it seems that it might be easy to get into a trap of paying for a little bit more and a little bit more and a little bit more..?! Have you got a free google place holder with your business profile on it? I have one and it's good to capture local people's attention with..

Please do let me know if you do and whether it's working for you.

    Best wishes

  • I used a £50 voucher I received from Google.  I setup various keywords and a £5 a day limit.  Average cost per click was around £1.

I spoke to somebody at Google about it and he said my budget was too small, I should be spending more.  When I said that I suspected my website wasn't good enough and not leading to calls from the clicks he didn't really take that in and just repeated that I should spend more.

If you have a good website and are getting near the top on google anyway adwords shouldn't be necessary. I also suspected competitors were clicking my ads to use up my limit.

Also, the £50 voucher disappeared off my account and £50 was taken out of my bank.  Had to shut down the account and still waiting for voucher to be reapplied and money refunded.

    regards

    Justin

  • Google maps, well that is another story.

We have tried 4 times over the last 18 months to get onto google maps, still waiting.

They claim to send out a postcard when you apply, well 2 out of 4 times, so 50% of the time this happens.

When you do finally receive the famous postcard, and fill in the password, it can then take up to 6 weeks for your business to appear on Google maps.

Still waiting, only another 4 weeks to go!

  • yep I've just put the code in so we will see what will happen. At the moment it seems a waste of money as everyone on the free maps is above my paid advert! so not worth doing any may be cancelling tomorrow on this basis.

  • It works for us.

Don't go into it blind, try and do some research business link used to do courses. Do not aim for top spot, you can limit your competitors activity with the settings. Set a realistic budget that you can sustain, check your quality scores with your keywords. You do not seem to get such good scores whilst you are using the voucher.

  • At the beginning of 2012 we got a free £75 voucher, put it on and we got one great size project from it.

I've tried Google Adwords with a fair bit of success; all I can say is make sure you get yours keywords and advert bang on or it can end up costing quite a bit as you might come up up on irrelevant searches. Am about to fire my ads off again over next few weeks as people are getting a bit more interested in their gardens.
