Going electric.

On a pretty dismal Saturday morning whilst it is pouring with rain instead of being out doors doing what I should be doing, I am watching Jim’s Mowing videos on YouTube about a new franchisee who is setting up an all electric outfit with Ego gear and onboard PV charging backed up with a supply from the truck alternator to charge on the move.

There’s two videos, the tour of the trailer then fitting the charging gear.

Good luck to the guy brave enough to make a career change and invest in Jims mowing .

His trailer is amazing , love the way the back folds down to create a ramp to drive a ride on to .

With the one ego mower though i feel he will have to add a petrol mower at some stage unless he selects his jobs carefully .

My best gardens are the ones which are small enough to allow me to be all electric , I love those visits but obviously he is gardening down under i dont know what size the average garden is down under but i imagine them to be big and perhaps more driving between properties .

Solar trailers could be the future .

      • More sunshine there for the solar panels and maybe different cutting height on drier grass which maybe a totally different variety to ours

Maybe, but there’s a new zero turn which ain’t half meaty

I was left home alone last night with the ladies going out for a meal for the first time in two years, so I watched a couple more videos whilst eating my pie and chips.

This one is a completely OTT review of electric zero turn, there’s no mention of it having six batteries costing four hundred quid a piece under the lid worth around £2400. It needs a minimum of one 10 ah with a 5 ah to run, four 10 ah should do two acres and six 10 ah three acres.

I am surprised there does not appear to be a secure lock on the battery box lid, I would not want to leave it unattended.

    • yes definitely a security issue there but good to see the individual pack configuration i suppose rather than some massive built in pack which could stop working due to one cell going bad

The argument for going electric looks strong, I doubt other manufacturers R&D teams are too far behind.

I was actually looking at buying a multi-tool and some accessories, there’s an offer of a free 2.5 ah battery if you spend seven hundred quid.

Sounds good, but it seems that none of the suppliers have have any stock and the battery offer is subject to stock being available, so I might be on a hiding to nothing.

    • Just speaking personally but I don't rate a lot of the Ego kit compared to the Stihl, however does anyone ever get the opportunity to try it side by side to make a real comparison? That ride on mower looks mega though
