Generic glyphosate

My 5 lts of Roundup pro biactive is down to the dregs, so its time to buy some more. Generic glyphosates seem to be about half the price of roundup tho'. My usual supplier offers Gallup Amenity, or Rosate.Anybody got any views on which of these might be better (if any) or these vs Roundup?

  • I've used Gallup before. The end product acts in exactly the same way but I found it took approx one or two weeks longer to work.

    I went back to biactive.
  • Hi Martin

i always use Gallup Hi Active
    never use anything else
  • PRO
Go for the Gallup Hi-Aktiv variant (490 glypho), better than the Amenity and dries quicker & faster acting. Also clings better than basic product.
  • Rosate 36 used here, no complaints.
  • learn something new everyday........... never heard of either of those 2 but now I've looked em up, I'll give them a try!

I stick with roundup pro tank mixed with a splash of mixture B and coadcide oil.
  • Do you mean a 'selective' such as pistol?

Personally I use Round up Pro but occasionally I will add a half rate of hormone herbicide containing 2,4-D or MCPA ( depending what is to hand) as I find this improves efficacy against some difficult weeds such as mare's tail.
  • Doh, I meant Relay! Getting things confused.

Pistol is not a selective, it contains glyphosate & diflufenican (dff). The dff is there to enhance the efficacy of glyphosate against broadleaved weeds and also to give some slight residual activity. I was referring to straight phenoxy hormone type products such as Agritox or Agroxone (containing MCPA) or Depitox (2,4-D) or anything containing mecoprop (CMPP)

  • Does this really work Colin? It goes against my understanding of how glyphosate should work (needing a growing plant for the systemic action). Also - is it safe/environmentally friendly to mix glyphosate and weedol?

buy the cheaper stuff and add a bottle of weedol to it, it kills the tops off quick and still kills the roots properly
  • lol fair enough

ye it works, the glyphosate is absorbed in fairly quick so has its systemic effect maintained. i only do it when i get the impression its the sort of customer who will be on the fone the following day telling me the weeds arent dead yet

  • It's described as 2% of total volume, so 10l in your sprayer should have 100ml of mixture B in it. If it works well at 20-30ml then ideal!

Using roundup 450 works out cheaper overall though.
