We have two that we use. But no matter how good the price- 90% of the time they can't beat our local Sainsbury's prices and that winds them up so much!
Local (Guildford), direct comparsion this week shows;
- Sainsbury Superstore is retailing Diesel @ £1.229 p/l
- Adjacent Murco garage via weekly fixed price UK Fuel/Texaco Fastfuel card is £1.215p/
Experience shows you do need to rewiew your fixed price ;)
Our ESSO card this week is 100.42 ppl +VAT so 120.50 ppl So no way Sainsburys can beat that. The crawley Sainsburys is 122.99
Maybe Sainsburys don't beat the cards so often now. I remember about 6 months ago both the cards couldn't beat Sainsburys. So the percentage I mentioned before maybe wrong now.
I suspect it's quite regional and that's what I was going on to state above (but got sidetracked :).
I/we try to keep an eye on what they are up to. For the odd pence or so difference, we always default to the fuelcard, simply to save admin and dealing with expenses. It keeps the guys happy as a fill up is nigh on £100 ..gulp :(
Yep so expensive!!!
On a personal aside...
I remember the days I could fill my Fiat Punto for £35! :) and I'm not that old ;-)
Nowadays it is £100+for our Audi.
However I know that my truck now "only" takes £85 ish now where as last year biggest fill up was over£110!
Be really careful with supermarket fuel: this has come up on threads about vehicles and tools.
They don't contain the same additives, and can be older stock: critical if you're using tools less in the winter.
My local Tesco is actually a bit dearer than the Esso, and Esso now give Clubcard points as well. I've had diesel waxing on me in the van, and the first thing the garage asked was if I'd filled up at the supermarket.
Just filled the car with super unleaded at 121.9p. It's fantastic to see prices so low again, I can afford to do 20% more miles this year! :-)
That's really interesting Paul as we did not know that. Definitely something we will look into now. Thank you for telling us.
Interesting article (from a vehicle mis-fueling business) discussing some of the issues :
Supermarket fuel vs branded fuel - what difference...?
