ANd he has asked me to wash it off. the only the thing I think I can do is to Jet wash it off.. would this be enough ...has anyone got any ideas on what else I can do if I cant get it done by doing this.

rsvp with ideas would be nice.

  • It's just the iron in the feed n weed it will go in a couple of weeks

I thought iron stains were permanent? One of our customers still has some from the previous gardener and that’s 10 years ago....

    • Sound like rust from the Fe element as has been mentioned above.  When spreading near paving it's always worth whizzing round with the blower imediately after the application.

Agree it's the iron content. Always best to blow any granules off patios. Will be long lasting if not cleaned. Have a look / speak to Lithofin about the sort of patio stone it is and need to remove iron stains - they have a good set of products.

Alternatively, fresh lemon juice + scrubbing brush and rinsed off after a few mins. Do in small patches, it's acidic, so don't leave on too long or may create more issues.

Forgot to say, if you do use a strong cleaner, rinse off away from the lawn, otherwise you may end up scorching the grass edges.

  • You'll need to use some rust remover. Fertiliser with Fe ALWAYS needs you to go around with the blower afterwards. AND if it's raining, don't let it get onto stonework in the first place

  • Many years ago I did a similar thing on some tarmac................ I'm afraid nothing would shift the stains. Got round the problem by spraying the tarmac with black masonry paint mixed with Unibond. The customer was so delighted as the tarmac looked better than it had looked for years so she got me to repeat the treatment every few years dispite the brown stains never reappearing.

This site is quite an interestig/useful source of info    http://www.pavingexpert.com/stains.htm     There are a few suggestions you could try.

Just think it through carefully,  did you get the weed and feed on the path or did the customers walk over the grass and transfer it onto the path?

    • Long shot, but a good point Andrew.
