Fence Sprayer! Which to choose

Hi guys I am new to this site and I have a question. I have got a job with about 100 fence panels that want painting. Any suggestions on a decent sprayer. The one I currently use is not up to this large scale job because it gets clogged alot.

Thanks

Nathan

The ronseal ones are alright but you will have to keep pressurising them. I'm pretty sure the clogging to more to do with the paint not being suitable or mixed correctly?
  • Might be worth having a chat with ljn member David Brain.
  • Roller? Very fast, never needs pumping up, doesn't over-spray, cheap to buy and don't even bother cleaning at the end of the job, just chuck it away.

I've done fences and decks with a simple roller, decking with it on a pole to save bending. Choose a coarse one and it gets in to all the nooks and crannies.

  • Hi Nathan.

I use a Wagner Flexio 687 which will cope with your 100 panels easily.

I run mine using a 2200Kw generator so I do not use my clients electric which I use as selling point.

One piece of advice I would give, if you already didn't know, is NOT to fall for the "sprayable" paints/stains. All  types of paints/stains are sprayable, you just have to get the viscosity correct.

Of course if time is not an issue then roller/brush would be the cheapest idea. If it is an issue then a sprayer will give you an advantage.

If you are looking to continue in fence spraying I would invest in an electric sprayer with possibly a generator. If this is a one off job then maybe try a battery operated Ronseal type sprayer, though I have heard from others that have used this type of sprayer that they are not as efficient or reliable as the ads have us believe.

    Hope this helps.

    • Thanks guys especially David! I've just ordered a black and decker electric sprayer I'll let you know how it goes.
      • Is that a trade-spec sprayer? I've not seen B&D machines that are up to regular use. Definitely go for gear that's independant of the need for extension leads from the client's house if you want to be seen as professional.

David has the best advice here. My only point would be that rollers are way faster than a brush, and arguably comparable to spraying in many of the small to medium jobs?
