Facebook - beware...

Following on from Garys thread about Twitter I thought it worth passing on some wisdom from a client of ours. She's director of a multinational IT business and when they are recruiting for staff one of the first things they do with applicants is check out their facebook pages. It seems that it isn't too hard to get invited into somebodys 'space' and from there they get to see all those incriminating photos and comments. And by all accounts many people seem to be more than willing to post things that they certainly wouldn't want a potential employer to see.So think about who you're allowing into your space and perhaps even more importantly who might see your posts because if people are doing this for their employers then they may well be taking that step with the people they employ at home as well - gardeners, landscapers.....etc. Once you've posted on the internet then EVERYBODY in the world has a chance of seeing it!Just a thought!Davewww.gardenmaker.wordpress.comwww.the-gardenmakers.co.uk

  • I refuse to keep a facebook account, had one once but cancelled it it's not for me, I like my real live friends and talking face to face.
I think it would absorb too much of your time, I worry for my children, as any tom dick and harry can contact them and you wouldn't allow that in real life so I think youngsters are vulnerable.

Mine are just 2 and 5 my friends daughter who is 11 we had a swap of mobiles and I was shocked at messages from god know who ( men) Teenagers who knows sending untold messages. Can children have facebook account?
There was no way she would have known these people.

I see advantages but I'm uncomfortable with it.
  • You set up your privacy settings so anyone who is not a friend only gets to see your basic profile information.
  • I think the cleverer researchers go to some effort to get invites into your space...

There's a downside to any form of publicity - Stuart Maclennen has found out (to his cost) how, what might seem personal and private views, can get you into a lot of trouble.

'Oh dear, another useless career politician bites the dust.

Looks like too many tweets really do make a twat.'
