Excavator For Narrow Access!

Hi Folks

I looked at two jobs yesterday that both had very narrow access, one was 590mm (barely wide enough for a wheelbarrow) and the other 770mm.

It's the latter that I need a bit of help with.

Does anybody know of an excavator/360 etc. that can fit through a 770mm wide gap with about 1800mm height clearance?

I wouldn't be operating it myself and need to hire a machine and a man in Hull for the job, so:

  • nationally available machine needed (no specialist machine in Surrey etc.!).

Thanks in advance.

David

  • Good Morning

You need to hire a micro excavator a limited access specialist in North Wales has them called www.minimuckshift.co.uk

Kubota do a U10-3 http://www.kubota.co.uk/product-range/construction/u-series/ this machine is 750mm wide and they have a foldable frame to reduce the height. If you can get hold of a Kubota 008 these are slightly more narrow.

Mini Muckshift can't help in Hull but GAP Hire usually do Kubota or try other independents.

    Hope that helps

Silly question, but what's the planned usage ?

The reason I ask is that we use Kanga's reguarly as a front end loader for scraping/moving materials, but not for deep excavations (although they do an excavator attachment...I know.... we ARE in Surrey..;-)

These are available from some main hire centres (even Jewsons has them)- could call the UK importers and ask where in your area has one for hire.

Cracking machines, with the 216 being 770 wide at wheels (but watch if it has tracks on it - may make it wider...)

    Just an idea.....:-)

  • Thanks Gareth

The Kubota sounds perfect and I can get it + driver to site for £270 per day (8 hours).

The job is for a guy that has bought a 3 story 6 bed Edwardian town house that has a carriageway leading to former stables at the the back of his garden. It sounds grand, but in reality there are a lot of properties like that in the area, he got it as a repo and it is a bit of a mess!

I went to site and there is the remains of a 9 ft deep koi pond to fill in, a large softwood deck to remove and a fence-line to clear. The machine would basically be grading hard clay soil and moving over-burden about.

  • Good Luck with the job, you can get JCB Dumpsters or similar narrow access tracked dumpers that carry 500kg. The hire centre will probably do those to.

    Have fun!

  • The jcb micro is 700mm wide and seems to be the most powerfull micro digger.

  • cor. they're a bit cute. useful looking piece of kit for sure.

My Takeuchi micro digger will fit through a 75 cm gap quite easily, im sure most makes are quite similar in width. If your looking for someone to hire out for the day ive seen people on gumtree offering their services (digger and driver) for as little as £90 per day! ....far too cheap in my opinion.
