etesia pro 46 phtb rear right wheel locking ?

Hi all,

My Etesia pro 46 phtb is giving me trouble - the right rear wheel will not turn independently of the left rear when drive is not engaged.
This makes it hard to turn right going forwards and left going backwards , anyone got any ideas??

cheers

Andy

I have had another look and it appears that the wheels will not turn in different directions to allow the machine to pivot ?? If i move it forward and backward it does eventually "free" itself but only temporarily.

Is there a drive gear on the axle and a gear on the wheel which mesh? when worn they don't mesh correctly and then lock!! well thats happened on one of the toro's!

Hi, from the picture below you can see the ratchet mechanism and as a first stage I would remove wheel and then ratchet item 66. The ratchet gear may have stones or grit stuck in them, but if not undo the securing bolt and slide part 66 off shaft and you will probably find the inner ratchet pawls have come apart
  • It was fine before i pressure washed it, so you could be right. can the inner ratchet pawls be put back together or do they need replacing?

  • ive had this on other machines. jet washing may have washed the grease out or pushed some grit in. when dismantled, clean all the parts and check the pawl(s) and the pawl "housing" for wear. you may find when everything is emery clothed and greased it will work again without replacing any parts, although the pawls are a part that gets plenty of stick!

Agree with Bens comments. Dismantle, clean, grease and reassemble - should be okay but pawls are available separately if required.
  • Thanks for your help - will have a go at it tomorrow.
