Etesia PKTB Pro46 constantly clogging up

My first Etesia was a used Pro46 PBTS (Briggs engine) and I was blown away by how well it performed even in the pouring rain. I always suspected the engine ran faster than it should have and coincidence or not, it eventually threw the con-rod through the engine casing.I then bought a Pro46 PKTB (Kawasaki engine) and although good, it has never been quite as good as it's predecessor. But lately, is seems to clog up underneath virtually every time the grass box fills up, or half fills if damp.Could something have fallen off/broken/worn out?

Assuming blade is sharp and the rear tips are all in good condition I would look at the belt condition and tension on the blade clutch. Does the blade come up to speed instantly when you engage it or is it more of a gradual build up. The Briggs version has the blade directly fitted to the engine, whereas PKTB has a blade clutch, and any slippage there will slow blade speed and adversely effect collection. In all conditions the PKTB will perform on a level with the old machine if it is set up correctly. Regards Derek.
  • Not familiar with the Etesia models but is the bag clogged up .......... give it a good blast with a hose/pressure washer to get it completely clean and unblocked. Are you using a genuine blade or is the blade worn......... on my Kaaz, I've had similar problems and a new blade has sorted it out.

Also suggest : Get a cheap electronic Tacho (~£8 -either fitted or handheld one) and check the engine RPM. Adjust/tweek as needed.

  • not sure but my etesia pro-51k was sucking up deep puddles on grass verge today with box off and shooting out the chute in streams ! :) dan frazers? advice - ..

Is it all intact underneath? No blockages in the profiling of the deck or a broken lift tip of the blade?

There is 2 other possible reasons

1st is the small black deflector plate inside the machines chute could be damaged or even missing

2nd is the meatle lip on the grassbox could be damaged

both of these things are required for the correct airflow in the system and if either is damaged or missing would let the gras build up inside the chute and clog very easy

Thanks for all your replies guys.

I was hoping to have a look the weekend but it never happened (too busy using it!) Will try and have a proper inspection one of the nights this week.

I know if you tip a Briggs engine in the wrong direction oil goes into the cylinder. Is there a direction you can/can't tip the mower with the Kawasaki engine?

Always tip so carb side stays highest and oil filler lowers. On the Kawasaki I think that means lifting from left side, but because it has a fuel tap always turn off fuel and run till it stops before tipping, which will make it easier to restart after as engine won't be flooded with fuel from the carb bowl.
