Its no surprise really, Fords have been produced in Turkey since the 1950's and Turkey are the 6th biggest producers of vehicles in Europe. The Turks work for a fraction of what the Brits can afford to.
Gutted for the 000's losing their jobs down south and in Belgium. GDP up 1% for the last quarter, lets see if its still at that rate come new year with all the job loses from Ford, Argos, RBS, Halls etc etc the list is endless. :-(
Bad week this week for jobs dissapearing
I always love the old Sweeny episodes, with the classic Transits arriving through a shower of cardboard boxes just in time to disgorge their load of cops or robbers. I loved my '95 LWB semi-high that did about 100k miles of reliable work.
RIP, the British Transit van.....
trouble is if you stuck to buy british you might be on your push bike with a basic trailier as there is hardly anything made in britian or that is even totally one brand name.
For example the old VW sharon is the Ford Galaxy and Seat people carrier.
The Renault Traffic is actually a Vauxhall Van. So if you trust one brand and buy that its not always the case but the Ford Transit is a Ford.
theres alot machinery, vehicles ect made exactly the same as many other companies, most using the same parts nowadays, its simply down to money, what makes the model different sometimes simply depends on which market it ends up. The quality of parts has not changed in years its all about placing cheaper parts inplace to fail after a lenth of period, no doubt honda have made cars years back that would last for ever, but whats the point, there vehicles sales would go up a little but there parts and maintenance would drop drastically. ever wondered why there is such a broad range of prices on cordless drills, between diy use and pro use, usually its only the gearbox , diy gets an all plastic gearbox and the pro's get an all metal gearbox. Nowadays its all about price the more you pay for somethink the more technically you should get for your money.
