Doing a method statement & risk assessment

Ive recently been looking to get a few commercial contracts and have been successful in aquiring one.It was originally to sort gardens out ,but after the company i have this contract with had a disasterous audit off Asda i now go 1 day a week and do an audit on the exterior of the premises, meet with General manager and report what non-conformancies ive found (if any) then go and put right anything that requires it.The company are wanting off me a completed method statement and a risk assessment and i would be most gratefull if anyone can give me any pointers on doing so.

  • What's your email addy and I'll send samples? I used to write these all the time in previous employment in environmental consultancy, every time we left the office it seemed!

Hazard - Walking down the street and being hit by a bus
Likelihood - Very likely to throw myself in front of a bus with this office job
Risk - HIGH, MUST MITIGATE!!! SCORE MUST BE BELOW 6

    You get the idea :o)
  • Hi Steve,

The HSE website has simple examples of risk assessments and guidance which you may find helpful. (HSE.gov.uk)

Re the request for a method statement, this is basically a written summary of how you would carry out the work taking account of any H&S risks and including any specific control measure you would need to use. You will probably also be asked for a copy of your Employer Liability Insurance (if you have any staff) and your Public Liability Insurance.

In a previous life, I was an HSE Inspector so if you need any more help, give me a shout.

    Hi,

Here's a link to the Arboricultural Associations generic method statement.

    http://www.trees.org.uk/downloads/2008_Generic_Method_statement.doc

It may be worth a look at to give you inspiration and point you in the right direction.
