I have lots of Clematis in pots, - and they do very nicely as long as they are watered regularly.
Don't plant Montana varieties, and the winter flowering ones don't seem to do that well, but i've found
Alpina (early) and Viticella (july-Sep) varieties do very well, - (and are easier to look after than the large flowered types)
This is a fantastic variety that's been in a pot in my garden with lots of bulbs for 3 years.
