  • I use hypochlorite which i get from our local farm supplier i dilute it 50/50 leave it for 5mins and its as clean as new. It also is amazing on indian paving, york paving and i also use it on block paving which is very handy as you dont upset the sand bed as you would with a power washer.

You might be able to get away with a lower dose as its very strong.

If using it though wear full waterproofs and wellingtons e.t.c and test a small area first before you start. Its also not good on tarmac.
  • Hi Mark

I have used this method on green fence panels before repainting for years. I just get the cheapest household bleach that I can, about 40p for 1 ltr and pour in about a quarter to half a ltr into a 5 ltr bucket of water. I also add some washing up liquid to the mix. Will help to break down the grease and grime. Scrub the surface well with a stiff brush and allow to dry. You may not actually require such a strong solution but for the cost I have never taken the chance of not killing off the spores. Please make sure that you wear complete eye protection.
  • All great info thanks fellas
  • Ditto all of the above! just did a deck cleaning job the other day with household bleach from tesco, scrubbed it with short bristle stiff brush left for few mins then washed of with pressure washer(but not too high pressure). Superb job.
  • Just a word of caution. If you're using bleach and scrubbing brushes, wear safety glasses just in case the bristles flick some in your eyes!

this is now a soap based cleaner, although its the same as its always been.
is it any good for cleaning decks,it should stop the moss and algae coming back i would have thought.

i just cleaned a deck today about 150m2 i used 3 litres thick house hold bleach mixed it 15 litres of water to 1litre bleach sprayed this from a backpack sprayer (course nozzle).sprayed decking brushed it in left for 10 mins then pressure washed low pressure high water volume used .
deck came up great .will brush over with a mix of turps and linsead oil to bring back some colour to it when it dried it looked great no more black green slime dont use to much pressure otherwise you rip up timber. good luck. took me 6hrs using 13hp pressure washer.

I have to clean a deck overhanging a pond (no fish just plants) so am concerned that the diluted bleach would harm the plants if it got in the pond (which it is highly likely to). Any thoughts?
