  • Your chains are top notch. By far and away the best budget chains I have used. They come with an edge as good or sometimes better than Stihl on, and they don't wear in the pins like normal cheapy chains. I use them in all my bigger saws (up to 24") The 3/8 full chisel in particular has an outstanding edge out of the box. The rakers are also down to a sensible level, which is nice.

    However, some feedback:

    1. You need to standardise prices between your ebay account and your website. Why are your website prices more expensive? I've asked you this more than once. I've just checked and 2x 1.1mm 3/8p 44DL are £9.39 all in on eBay and £9.60 PRE VAT on your website.

    2. A low profile 3/8p chain would be nice. No point having a 1.1mm bar and chain if the kerf is the same as a 1.3mm. Your guy told me they were low profile but then he also said they weren't bumper tie links and half of the ones that turned up were. So I threw them straight in the bin.

Overall, amazing chains for the money let down by sometimes confusing and convoluted service. To be fair when you sent me another batch that were totally wrong, the returns label was postage paid and the refund prompt. But I'd rather not have the aggro.

  • I've just watched the video and that's a crappy way to sell chainsaw chains. Any chain will do that once, and I noticed your guy declined to make a second cut... It's clear the chain was totally knackered by the last couple of inches.

Use the right tool for the job.

    • Looks impressive to me............... you need to remember that in the last "couple of inches", he's actually cutting through a lot more nails hence the slower pace at the end.

      • Graham, this is because the chain is knackered. All the working corners have been trashed by the first nails.

A chainsaw is not designed to cut nails, therefore advertising like the above is misleading and pretty much pointless.

It's a shame because from a professional forestry point of view, the chains are actually bloody good. Not just in terms of price but also from a technical viewpoint.

          Hi Ben,

You are right, they aren't designed for cutting nails. The video is a performance test. Although customers have commented that having accidentally hit nails, the chains have survived very well.  A cheap chain wouldn't manage it. We use high grade steal, which is able to withstand wood with lots of grit.

Glad to hear you have had a good experience using the chains.

          • I've known much more expensive chains fail for far less. Oregon 1.1mm cutting yew on an MS241, 9 pin sprocket. Yes, it's a hell of a chain speed, but you need that for production in a tough wood like yew as you can't take the rakers down that much. Within half a day, the Oregon had lost half it's cutters. Stihl and Rotatech 1.1mm chains, no bother.

Thanks, that is a very good point. If you are interested, you can buy them here, http://www.rotatechsawchain.co.uk/ or call 0114 278 9090

We are the only UK supplier and have developed the chain ourselves.

      Hi Ben,

If you have any other ideas, please let me know. We have a series of videos, which I will be posting over the coming weeks.

We published this one yesterday, bit.ly/Rotatechvsleading It was created a by a customer. What do you think.

      • It certainly backs up what I said above about the Rotatech full chisel being especially good out of the box.

If I was in your shoes, I'd be contacting big professional users of chains (guys with utility contracts etc) with a few free samples and feedback from real world pro users like myself, rather than selling on gimmicks like 'watch this chain cut nails'.

Have you any idea whether you will be bringing a true low profile (ie. thinner kerf) 3/8p chain to the market?

I would be interested in trying your bars. I've never had a cheap bar that lasted any length of time. Also, you need some more options on your bars page. Plenty of Stihl saws are supplied with either .325 or 3/8, and there is no indication whatsoever on your bar selector as to which yours are. This will put the pro market off, as custom combinations are also very much personal preference. Guys who know exactly what they are running need to be allowed to specify it, rather than a domestic 'tell us your saw' selection.

          Hi Ben

Thanks for the advice and nice comment about the Rotatech chains.

We do low profile chains to suit similar Stihl Picco and Stihl Micro Picco, the Oregon equiv is 90sg and 91 vxl. Are they of use to you?

You can see our full range of bars here, http://www.northernarbsupplies.co.uk/647-rotatech-bars

With chains there are two options for buying either choose by ‘name and model’ or ‘gauge and pitch’. Are you suggesting we do the same for bars?
