You need to check out the latest.
It's now called the Disclosure and Barring Service.
http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/agencies-public-bodies/dbs/
We did ours thru : https://www.disclosurescotland.co.uk/ as part of the Trading Standards ' Buy With Confidence' scheme.
There are various levels of disclosure depending on who your target 'market' is and/or is defined by those "employing" you.
Normally quite quick and can be applied for online. I believe/ there is now a similar services based in England especially as recent events have changed the rules.
We use Disclosure Scotland. Cost for a basic disclosure is £25 but best check which level you need before parting with your cash.

Hi Robin,
I look after a nursery and had to get a CRB check before I started. I struggled to find a company to use and ended up going through the adjoining primary school and paying them the cost of the check.
Hope this helps.
Nick
When I started I asked about being checked and after a couple of months I insisted the school check me out simply for my own protection. They did this, I filled in some quick forms and showed my ID and I'm now CRB checked.
Think it cost the school £95 or so.
Why not ask the nursery to apply & bill you....or waive it/share it?
Cheers, Eugene
