Brushcutter blades

To date I have never used the metal brush cutter blades, but I need to clear som rough ground.

Years ago my father used on and it seemed to wobble around like a nodding dog, do you use one?

I receantly bought a new still back pack blower which seemed to have a new brushcutter blade thrown into the box looks quality.

But would you use it?

  • I had one with a Stihl backpack. Not as brilliant as you might hope. It's ok for light woody stuff, brambles etc, but does not easily cut a wide swathe and I found it harder to direct the cut stuff out of the way. I use it more for spot work on woody weeds and up and down into brambles. It does have a sort of wobble, but you get used to that. I presume the one you have has 3 blades. Stihl also gave me a 4 bladed grass blade which I have never used...prefer a lawn mower.

  • The wobble may have occurred due to the blade not being mounted properly on the hub, it has to locate and sit flat so to speak, and it's easy to dislodge it slightly whilst fitting the nut and tightening.

  • Don't like blades on a brushcutter unless its for cutting saplings down. Long reach hedge cutter is more effective on on brambles. Stick with strimmer line and a powerful engine for grass.
