Bordeaux Mixture

Quick question for the gardeners...

We have a young nectarine tree in our garden which has, for the past two years, suffered from peach leaf curl. I read last year that the appropriate treatment is the application of bordeaux mixture before Spring. The question is, is it OK to apply it now, or should I leave it until February/March?

  • Thanks Gaynor!
  • I planted some new fruit trees in January including a peach.  It developed leaf curl shortly after planting which annoyed me as I felt it should have treated at the nursery.  At least I know what to do to control it.  However, yesterday whilst checking the trees over while irrigating them I noticed that the trunk has a load of lumps of clear resin exuding from it.  Also, the tree hasn't put on any new growth unlike the others.  I've done a quick Google an haven't found any info.  Any thoughts please ?  I can supply a photo if it helps.

  • Hi Gaynor,  Thanks for the reply.  I don't see the leaf spots you mention.  Perhaps I should post some pics as there aren't many branches to die.  Might be best to rip it up and buy a better one.  Trouble is I know nothing about the care of young trees.

    Hi Roger

My peach tree suffers with a gel oozing from open sores too.

Have a look at this thread. There are a few images to look at too.

  • Hi Phil,

Funnily enough, the link you provided was the only page I'd found on the subject.  Mine is nothing like the horrible big pictures and the small ones are too small to see.

What are you doing about yours.  Are you attempting to treat it or do you think the tree will survive.  Mine is only a young tree.  The gel is clear as opposed to amber.  I'll post a couple of pics later.

  • I think you're right Gaynor.  They aren't very expensive so probably the best long term bet.

  • Gaynor,  Would you be so good as to look at this pdf

     http://www.international.compo.com/en/professional/pdf/nitrophoska_...

and give me your opinion on whether I could use this product for all my feeding needs including trees, veg and flowers including tomatoes and roses.  The one I have is the Suprem (third one down in the table).

    Thanks muchly.

  • Is Beaujolais a bordeaux mixture?

  • Hi Gaynor.  Sorry for the tardy reply.  I obviously need to learn a lot more about feeding and watering.  The sick plant is a peach by the way but I do have a Conference pear newly planted this year.  I'd better leave this now as it's going off topic.  Thanks for your help and advice.
