Aside from slug pellets and nematodes (both as effective as each other when used properly) the best method is cultural control -
As slugs and co lay eggs throughout the season - its best to spread pellets of nematodes early in the season to kill the first generation before they breed, that means the population for the rest of the year is 50-90% down as each slug lays dozens of eggs, and shortly after those dozens lay dozens and so on and so forth - My prefered method is :
Nematodes applied in March.
Followed by pellets in May/June
Then only reactive treatment for the rest of the year as is needed (usually none required).
Just use the slug/snail pellets.... its a simple straightforward solution that works well.... I always keep a container full in the van. Large container costs £1 from Wilkinsons and lasts quite a while.
