ive got a husqvarna one seem to give it death and wont give up. i always hear horror storys of the stihl heads chewing gears and bearings up.

Ask your local repair shop what faults they have with HL100? i did thats what he said heads chew up easily,
Echo are great. But if the dealer isn't close I'd go for a Stihl. Echo has longer warranty and opinion on which one is better is 50/50 but there are less dealers for Echo.
Run Echo's for years, had Stihl and run a couple of Huskies amongst the god knows how many Echo's.
