Best Herbicide spray for hard areas.

Hi

I have recently started on my own this year after 19 years in and out of the industry, but have noticed that the newer developments of houses driveways and paths are clogged with weeds and look to follow this up with a service into next year. I hold all the Pesticide licences and have used them throughout my horticultural career.

so what is your best working chemical on the market that you use best?

I have used Clinic ace, most of the round up PRO ranges and just interested to know what works best.

Thanks Richard

  • We maintain acres of block paving and various paths etc on one particular site by a once a month 'walkabout' with a knapsack and Roundup pro.  90% is kept clear by traffic anyway, so it's not as daunting as it seems. It also doubles up as an opportunity to 'walk' the whole site once a month - takes me 6 hrs to 'spot weed' this site. Private drives are a doddle compared.  I do not use or like residual weedkillers on paving.

If you need instant knockdown and have a dry(ish) window of opportunity then consider Scotts Hammer. It has hard surface application approval. The price differnece is small.

Otherwise, as Colin says, Monsanto RUP (it's one of the best and cleaner products. Importantly has a very short drying time which makes it a god-send).

Cheaper Glypho's are not the same, nor cleared for blanket spraying of hard surfaces.

    Hi Richard,

Colin has summed it up well, glyphosate will be the answer in the majority of cases - just make sure you choose one with an Amenity hard surface approval and remember the new Code of Practice that it should be spot spraying only...

An alternative for quick knockdown is HAMMER: http://www.progreen.co.uk/Weed-killers/Total-Weed-Killers/Hammer-5L...  which now has hard surface approval - it makes weeds droop in 24-48 hours so its clear what has been sprayed - then glyphosate carries on into the root to kill it...

Final choice is the Nomix lance and Dual weedkiller - the only residual that is licensed for hard surfaces - exceptionally handy, easy to use and saves a load of mess if you just need to nip in/ nip out..
