I bought an FS94 at the beginning of the year and been pleased with it. You mention vibration however this seems negligible and isn't a problem to me. Runs nicely, starts easily...... very reliable. An extra year on the warranty could be useful though from my experience, standard 2 stroke Stihl strimmers need minimal maintenance and are extremely reliable so personally, I wouldn't put too much value on the extra warranty.
Purchased another one last month abbey garden machinery £230 great for edging up.
Got the 230 pole saw to, much lighter than my sthil hl95.
bought a stihl strimmer 4 months back albeit a domestic 1 "been in repair shop almost 2 weeks now" drive shaft gone and obviously really crap service from dealers to seeing as i still dont have it back so going by my own short experiance with stihl strimmers its pretty obvious why theres no 2nd year warranty "would cost them a fortune in repairs" and theyre clearly not confident enough in their machines going 2 years trouble free to offer 2 yrs warranty, as for vibration levels the figures for fs 94 arent really any better than model i have and i can certainly feel it in my hands/fingers after sustained periods of use "im talking about loop handled versions" u handle/bike handle versions have considerably better vib levels, how many a day or week would you use brush cutter geoff? and thanks mark ill have a look at the tanaka
I'll second the tanaka 230s, excellent, miles above stihl.
think ill have a look at the tanaka's theres a dealer nearby that does a number of japanesse brands echo/tanaka/kaaz/kawasaki need to pop over and have a proper look and feel for these machines anything ive read online about them been all good
You : )
i have a stihl ts410 disc cutter had since 2007 never a problem ,3 stihl 020 chainsaws starts first pull everytime.stihl064 chainsaw 12 years old never been a problem
stihl win on quality everday, yes they are not cheap but you pat for quality and long life
We just find that the newer Stihl equipment is far from perfect or as reliable.
We have loads of old stuff that keeps going, but newer stuff is constantly being repaired - switches, carbs, coils etc.
Maybe it's since they moved sections of manufacturing to China or other outsourced locations ?
Have you switched brands Gary or just plodding on?
If you have switched will your stick with just one or have a multitude of different makes?

I want to stick with Stihl as we've a good dealer and great service tech who always helps us, but we have bought alternatives in the past.
Just lately I've replaced a couple of Stihl HS8? hedge trimmers with the cheaper Stihl models on the "use it 'til it breaks then replace" model. I recently had a brief three way conversation with our service tech, regional stihl manager at the dealers. Apparently we aren't the only ones doing this......
The reason why I feel I can draw comparisons is we have a complete set of stihl gear for each team, so its easier to see trends with hard commercial use. Each machine is numbered and the service tech books it in under that number, making it easy to track faults.
I can see a time soon where Stihl is not an automatic first choice......
