Bargain Buys That Should Have Died.

You know, we all know the saying "buy cheap pay twice" right and boy that can be so true so often in our line of work.

That got me wondering though about those few cheap machines or tools that we have bought perhaps a few years ago and yet they are still going strong to this day.

Whilst perhaps more expensive items that we have purchased are already gracing the big garden in the sky. :0)

My contribution to one such purchase was a (Don't Laugh) Electrolux petrol blower / shredder that I bought for £39.99 from an Argos clearance shop when I first started out over 4 years ago.

I think they are made by McCulloch now. I tell you what though, still going strong with a great shredding action on it :0)

I'd love to hear what anyone else still has going strong when it should have died long ago.

  • This made me smile-when I was starting out I went (once) to a Saturday market and bought a pair of loppers for about £9...I replaced them about 2 ish years ago...which meant I got about 9-10 years out of them-so the pay per use was about 4p!
  • Im still using a few screwdrivers i got as a christmas present from one of those 'toy tool sets' when i was about 9(not sure if you can still get them). Other than that i havn't been so lucky and quickly learnt to buy new stihl products every time.
  • Bought some Alan Titchmarch racket loppers last year as a stop gap.

Think they were about £28. They are still going strong and give a decent cut. Top buy

I have a Chinese petrol pressure washer ~£200 with a clone of a Honda engine which keeps going and going.

Also not bad are B&Q "Value" shears which I purchased for £2.99 (incl VAT) some years ago and after replacing the nuts that hold them together, they are excellent and easily outperform shears costing ten times as much!
