Sympathies David,
Hope it's nothing serious.
Had to take three days off at the start of the month due to a bad back. Twisting to put mower in the van, Was on pain killers until last week but just has to keep working.
Back injuries are my worst fear as it is probably the one injury that can give you long term problems. Thankfully mine now seems ok hope yours is the same.
On another note, have to say from long experience I have always found physio to be a waste of time. Maybe a chiro and time seem to be the answer.
Hi Paul,
Yeah I know mate but work in a lot of tight parking areas where you would struggle to use a ramp, plus I have to carry the mower up steps at about half my contracts anyway (one of em has 30 steps, not good), which are mainly rear courts at tenement properties. As I work alone I can't really avoid it at the moment.
Believe me I would rather not have to lift the bleedin thing.

Hi all, just an update on my poorly back. Its not 100% but i have managed to work tuesday and today. Thanks for all your sympathy and replies and hope all you out there with aches and pains manage to get through the pain soon.
I too work alone and sometimes simply have to lift heavy things from day to day.
Last year i was having a back massage every 6 weeks or so just to keep my back in condition and it did seem to work but the back problem this time i think was down to twisting and stretching wilst hedge cutting. Had massage monday and like i say feeling much better.
Andy ,
I was sorry to read of your bad back , but glad to hear you are better.
I had days like that in the past , and had to go to work as I had some contracts.
try get non heavy tools - if working on small properties.
I used to use the big bags for lifting and one day it was socking wet- and the customer asked me to take it - very bad mistake it was. Any case better to walk twice than lift a too much.
While I worked for the fire brigade we had so many hours of learning how to lift etc. It is actually worth it, even more as that is your job.
Take care, Ofer
i remember years ago did my back in lifting 1cwt bags of cement (paper bags) the young physio demonstrated how to lift the bags with a pillow i bit my tong then said it was imposable to lift one like that on the next visit i was tempted to take a bag but due to my back i could not lift it but it turned out that her dad was a builder and she asked him about them and he agreed with me
Hurt my back on Tuesday replacing my mum's washing machine. I can still work but i have got an appointment with a chiropractor this morning. It helped last time.
I have a bulging disc which bulges out occasionally and touches the nerve causing pain in the lower back and groin area. Its something i will always be prone to so have to be careful these days.
