Attila 88 not cutting the rough stuff

I used my Attila 88 for the first time today and it wasent filling me with joy, it is a second hand machine deck bairing engine etc seem fine, but it struggles a lot with the kind of stuff i have seen them going straight through.

Once in thick high grass it dies, the very stuff it is desinged to sort out,it has been suggested that the guvner in the engine may be faulty?

Has anyone got any ideas?

Thanks Scott.

These machines deserve their reputation for dealing with the rough stuff so something is wrong. When you say it dies is it blade that slows, engine struggling or drive. I doubt it is something as complicated as the governor, but due to the nature of the work these machines do, often in dusty conditions, fuel blockages can be a common fault.  Also check plugs - worth replacing unless obviously brand new and air filter especially on a used mower.  Are belts good?

Once you get the problem sorted I am sure you will appreciate how effect these mowers are

  • Thanks for the reply Derek.

It is the blade speed that dies in the thick stuff, when i reverse out it picks up again,if i take half the width of the mower it makes a little diffrence but not much:(

Belts seem fine,no slipping going on as far as i can tell.

Some one has added another filter in the fuel line and i was going to look at that,i will check all the things you have suggested.

    Thanks again.

  • Thanks for that info Duncan i will have a look at that.

It has the briggs&stratton 14hp vtwin

I have also noticed black suit comming out the exhaust, and i would say that it is blowing slightly from somewhare.

    They joy's :(

  • Well i got new filter new plugs and all fuel lines+ filter as they were failry cracked.

And took it to the mechanic and straight away after hearing it run he said it is only running on one cylinder!

A quik check confirmed this, and the cylinder that isent running is getting a spark,so the problem is deeper:(

I will find out next week what the damage is:(

What it did cut running on only one cylinder is surprising.

Thanks for the replys and help guys.

    Scott.
