Artificial grass - weeds.

I've noticed a few artificial lawns lately that have some weeds either coming through or are growing along the edges.  Now I know this might sound like a silly question... but there's no reason that I can't spray them with gylphosate or in fact any weedkiller, is there?  Clearly not if it is a hybrid lawn, but I'm talking run of the mill artificial grass.

As a side note, does anyone on here offer artificial grass rejuvination?

The only issue I could see would be any run-off / overspray and the time it takes to dry. On a normal lawn/soil, it would be absorped and dry quite promptly, but onto plastic it will be a different issue - maybe it just means a longer exclusion time from the area sprayed (so reducing the chance of contamination etc)

Good one Gary!  I hadn't actually considered drying time at all, but yes, it does make sense.  Thank you.

  • Not much help, I know!   But i've noticed a couple of very tatty looking artificial lawns this winter. I expect they will improve in time but they are certainly not the finished article yet.

    Hi Darren,

Glyphosate is fine but spraying other total weedkillers may depend on their area of use - just check the product label.....play it safe with longer exclusion periods - not the plastic blades but the rubber matting where spray liquid, that doesn't pass through the drainage holes, can collect and will take longer to degrade or dry.
