Another huge Public Art project has been announced in London costing £30 Million a green bridge crossing the Thames, green because it will be covered in trees and planting cant wait to see it finished in 2017.

Got me thinking is all the good stuff in the capital? and yet when you look around there are some stunning Public Artworks dotted around the country a few added here which are some of my favourites. I would love to see your favourites from where you live.

  • No disrespect meant Trevor.. but I thought this was art when I did it.. 3314694749?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024

...and Banksy's father-in-law made three of these for us 3314697130?profile=original

  • everything that is decent and inspiring round my way is illegal and the dull uncreative local authority remove it!!

  • No disrespect meant Trevor.. but I thought this was art when I did it..

Art is what you make it and what a great hedge you have created..if one of those trees at the end were planted at the middlefront end of your creation it would make the best steam train smoke plume ever and i would want it on my street.

You mention Banksy this is my favourite.

  • Andy you would not offend anybody they are your views and that is what is nice about living in a democracy you can air them.

I think the art world would say they generate huge wealth how many people will benefit from building that bridge from Architects to construction workers to Landscapers? many hundreds I expect?

The NHS spent £137.4 Billion in 2012/13 so an extra couple of million would not make a jot of difference to them.

I for one would not want to walk around our cities and towns and see no public art but just drab buildings that inspire nobody and inspire no comment. As Landscapers we do employ people who install build erect these works of public art and then work the soft landscaping around them. We have just put a stunning stone monolith to commemorate the dead from both world wars for generations to enjoy the superb stone work over 20 people employed doing that.

The gherkin building why build that? just build a 70s office block for a tenth of the price? still does the same job, keeps the rain out and you can have an office space inside. Why have a Henry Moore outside in open spaces just weigh it in and build yet another hospital keeping some fat cat chief excec in a nice salary and fat pension...not for me I would rather see some vibrant art that makes you realise we don't live in some grey communist block country...i have been many times to these places where Art is never thought of and would not swap our wonderful country for that dreary drab landscape...this is my tonic that keeps me healthy (as well as mountain biking.)

This for me is a great tonic when i go up the A1 and see the Angel of the North superb...when i see the wicker man on the M5 a real tonic to an otherwise drab journey. If you hate public art you will hate this i absolutely love it.."Nailing home" attached.

Austerity is when you need it most to lift the nation out of the doom we have all been in for 5 years...but that is just my view.

  • Thanks for your nice comment about my hedge Trevor :-)

I won't put it here on your post but on my page there's a wonderful video of a Roger Scruton documentary called “Why Beauty Matters” if anyone's interested
