  • the tree surgeon we sometimes use has one of these and he does a lot of work with it. takes a bit of getting used to, but very useful. I ended up getting a husqvarna chainsaw stump grinder, second hand and that proved really useful for smaller gardens and akward places. for the £300 it cost it has paid for itself over and over again

  • The main consept that appeals to me is the light weight machine, can virtually stump grind any were and my customers love trees right in the middle of alpine borders and rockeries were a normal stump grinder has to be on level ground as most are 4stroke and would eat oil, if you get a tree that half way up a bank how would you get a small pedestrian stump grinder up it ?

  • hey do definetly have their uses. we do a lot of work in towns and in inaccesible places where tree surgoens have refused to quote. We also hire in larger ones where approriate. I know our tree surgeon uses his for most of his work. Not sure how they wear with teeth

  • Not shure on the cost i have seen them retail about £2,000 for a second hand one. I think with this particular type of stump grinder its usefull for its own particular application but only as part of an arsenal of stump grinding machines oviously if the stumps rather large and easily accessible id hire in a large stump grinder, i supposeeach machine has its own application were it works best from.

  • I have owned and operated one for many years now .They have their pro's and cons .Access is it's main strength but also the speed to set up do the job and get out is much quicker than a Rayco 13.The cutter cost is high at over £50 a set but the cutter wheel wears out after a couple years too and is not cheap at £500. So for £4000(I think) a new machine you will want it to pay for it self, which it will do as you have to charge a premium as it will do jobs that no other can. It can grind in footings, trenches,on steep slopes ,on roof gardens, go through terraced homes ect. The build quality is amazing.Only the Stihl ts760 engine has given me minor problems but I have given this machine hell for 7 years or so.

  • yes the price was on an arb site and included everythink.

That does seem quite dear for a second hand machine but as you say each machine for the correct job. We hired a little rayco which we carried through the customers house the other week and that was £80 plus vat not sure how that compares to what you pay but I thought it was good value for money. On eBay these small grinders tend to fetch about the same as the one you are looking at. Does the £2000 include the chainsaw unit?
