if you're doing a lot of it then you cant beat a coil nailer with am air compressor. no fuel to worry about, nails are cheap and you can do a load before you have to reload. we use a tacwise nail guns, which are about 175 and a 50 litre compressor which was about 150. You will pick up cheaper if you don't do a lot of it though. Brads are absolutely no good. to thin and will pull out or rust through. you should be using an annular nail.
Brads will be no good they are only good for door frames and skirting ect, why are you after air rather than gas? Best for feather edge is a paslode gas gun with 51mm paslode nails, they are not cheap but a lot less hassle than needing a compressor and a power source. I have had mine for about 8years now and couldn't even guess how many nails its fired, if you only need it for one or two days you can hire them for around £30
Thanks Thermo I have a portable compressor which uses the frame as the reservoir. I am hoping this will be man enough but accept it may need time to recharge more often than the bigger ones.
It wont be in constant use as my work varies a lot but I will probably find more uses for it other than just fence panels.
Thanks for the tip on annular nails. That must narrow the search a fair bit.
Possible option ? : http://www.landscapejuicenetwork.com/forum/topics/nail-guns-hitachi...
The idea was to have an air nailer for fencing and convenient for occasional other work where it would speed the job up a bit. I already have a compressor which is mostly used for tyre inflating at the moment. A mid range tool wouldn't be to much extra investment. I agree a Paslode or similar gas powered tool would be good but more than I want to spend just for convenience.
I can rent or even borrow a gas powered nailer as more of a one off arrangement if this turns out to be the best option.
I used an air stapler for attaching feather edge boards...... does a really good solid job. I've also used it to construct a picket fence which is still rock solid after 10 years. Nice and cheap too..... the one I use costs about £50 http://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-9040l-air-stapler though you can get others that will take longer staples.
Hi Geoff thanks for that link I had forgotten about good old Axminster. So far I think its not actually a Brad nailer but a framing nailer that I should have asked about.
Sorry to hijack this threat but I am also looking into buying a nail gun to speed up attaching feather edge boards.
I came across another thread where someone suggested a dewalt gun which is purely electric, so no need for gas cannisters and apparently less maintenance.. But not cheap..

Does anyone have any experience with this or anything similar or know of any less pricey alternatives?
Paslode are only one im told / try screwfix or google .
