Accounting packages

Hi all,
Has anyone looked into accounting systems recently?  I have started looking and there is so much choice.... web based 'cloud' accounting systems eg Tiolive then packages like Mind your own business, Sage.   It is mind boggling but I can't stand another year of spreadsheets and muddle.  It is time for a change.  Does anyone have a system that they can recommend. My dream is for something that is very easy and can make bookkeeping fun!!

Selina

  • I use GNU Cash, which is Free. It provides everything I need apart from quoting, which I do in excel.
A good start point as its free and open source.
  • I dont do my accounts anymore, I have a lady who does them for me, however some of the lads I know use Quickbooks, or Sage, I beleive both are very good, as Gary says not cheap though.

Like Gary, above QB Pro is a pre-req for our style of business.

However, have a look here :
    - www.winweb - heard good things, and

  • Our book keeper used QB. It produces all the reports I need instantly. Wouldn't even attempt to use it myself though!
  • I'm with both the Gary's. Used QB for 15 years, and Dave, it's easy enough to pick up.

  • I see QB do a package called QB Simplestart. It sells on Amazon for about £69 and may be adequate for your needs BUT, if you follow this link, you can get a FREE version to try that has all the functionality but limited to 20 customers. That shouldn't be an issue as you can work around it. I can't comment further as I haven't tried it but if there were enough interest, I'd be prepared to download the freebee and test drive it and report back on here.

  • I've moved this to Accountancy Selina.
  • We use Quick Books. We got it at a good price monthly through our Barclays Business account. The first 12 months is around £3 per month thereafter £20ish. It may be worth finding someone to give you a crashcourse, the bank gave us the name of someone local to us.
  • Your other option is to go down the SaaS route have a look at http://www.kashflow.co.uk/ developed and run by a great bloke Duane Jackson and his team. You can even try it out for free...rather than bung in a few hundred towards a bit of software...
  • There's no point in buying QB (or any other package) unless you're going to do the entries yourself. Once you get caught up with your backlog (and it's easy to do in QB), entering as you go along will be quick and easy.
