A career in horticulture: did you know?

  • There are currently just over 235,500 people working in the horticulture industry, spread throughout the UK
  • It is expected that from 2010-2020 the industry will need around 120,000 new entrants
  • Salaries for experienced Gardeners start from around £16,000 a year
  • Senior or Head Gardeners earn in the range of £20,000 - £35,000 a year
  • Experienced Greenkeepers and Groundsmen can earn in excess of £50,000
  • Salaries for Agronomists start from £20,000, rising to £33,000 or more with experience and up to £50,000 for senior roles 
  • An experienced Garden Designer can earn £25,000 plus
