I often try screwfix as a good reference place to start. You can often find what you want there as well as loads of other things that you never knew you wanted.
If you're after gloves for gardening, Protec Direct have a really good selection at really good prices but beware that they quote ex-Vat and have a £5.95 delivery charge.
Landscapes Direct are also a reasonably good place to look for specific things but their prices are also quoted ex-Vat and I'm not sure what their delivery charge is.
I've used all three of the above companies and am happy to say that I've had no reason to fault their service so far.
