conifer diseases/bugs

Has any one heard of a disease/bug that effects conifers/leylandis. It turns them brown. My customer has it on her hedge. it has not been cut for a year since I last cut it.I know that cutting to deep turns them brown but this has new growth that appears to be brown. Can anyone help or have any ideas

  • some round are way to no cure aphid lives of the sap
  • Hi
This could be a multitude of things
    1. Cypress aphid - You can see these aphids on thinner barked stems between May and November, they are fairly large about 2 - 4mm long, pear shaped and greyish to yellow-brown with two dark stripes on their back. also another indication to these aphids is honeydew is present and attracts wasps late summer. Spray with pirimicarb
    2. Juniper Shoot Moth - look for hollowed out leaves and shoot tips with a small entrance /exit hole, also small silk cocoons on the underside of the foliage. if it is tghis spray with diflubenzuron. Always be sure that it is before spraying.
    3. If on a main road lime induced chlorosis.
    4. Worst of all it could be Honey Fungus -have a look around and see if any other trees are affected or dying or ask your client if they know if any have been affected in their garden or neighbours garden.

If you need anymore help just drop me a line
  • Yes, their is quite a few round here thats been affected just started treatment with perimicarb, keeping a close eye to see what happens
