GREEN WASTE RANT

I have been speaking to my Local Council for advice of where I can recycle my green waste as a business. They explained that I should use the local waste management companies, of which I explained they don't recycle and that I want my green waste to be recycled. The nearest green recycling site is 40 miles away. So, the alternative is to use the local tip, which do recycle green waste but as we all know, we are not supposed to use this service as a business, but what alternative do you have as a gardener, or any other business come that, who have recycleable waste or goods.

I would very much like to see all garden businesses invest in a small chipper/shredder so that anything biodegradable can be either left with the client to degrade on site and either be re-used or just rot away.

I know that it would mean an initial outlay for the machinerey but I am convinced that it is a machine that can pay it's way over three years.
  • The council round the fylde have given all residents a green wheelie bin for green waste only.

    Its free aswell http://www.fylde.gov.uk/documents/original/Refuse&RecyclingLeal...
  • Agree Phil i think the chipper is the way forward looking ay the Camon C80 very neat and portable shred on site then when ready on to borders which the customer is paying you to do Green Waste is an issue but most customers understand its just the flats i have problem with

If you search LJN for this topic there is/are a number of posts that give the EA website address which provides a list, relative to your post code, of all  regsitered waste sites classified by the type of waste they accept (ie green).

There are also a number of posts detailing the way people handle green waste, from dedicated yard skips to chipper/shredders.

Any waste company that commercially takes green waste in has a duty of care of recycle it as it is banned from waste fill sites unless contaminated with other material.
