New member saying hello!

Hello there,

I may have spoken to a few of you on Twitter in the past however, as I've always consulted LJ before buying equipment etc. and I have been a subscriber to the newsletter for a while,  I thought I had better sign up and join in rather than be a freeloading lurker!

I've been in business for four years now with the last year being solely in the landscape industry. I started an inside and out property maintenance business originally, but always enjoyed the gardens more so I volunteered with my local National Trust grounds team in my free time to get some more experience.

I now cover the North Cotswolds with a mix of commercial and domestic grounds and garden services, with a particular interest in lawn mowing.

Gear wise, I run an Etesia Pro-46, Lawnflite Pro-53 roller and the full range of Stihl battery equipment - so feel free to ask any questions.

I look forward to becoming an active member and will join the BOG shortly.

Cheers,

Ross

    • Hello John, I'll be honest and say that I tend to get the Etesia out of the more often than the Lawnflite. The majority of my customers have opted for a mulching programme and although the LF is fitted with the mulching kit, the Etesia does a better job (although clearly there's no stripes). That said, the LF is heavyweight for strong stripes on formal areas but in tight or hilly corners it can be a bit of a handful. It collects really well though. I've not had any faults with it but I am very careful with my gear (proper ramp etc) so can't really comment on 'hard commercial use'. It doesn't like sharp bumps like tree roots or uneven grass and tends to jolt around, but for smooth/open areas it's great. I also really notice the difference between 18" and 21".

I've heard good things about Weibang and you can get the Kubota branded version for about the same money.

What other mowers are you looking at?

        • Hi John, it's always difficult to decide on the right mix of equipment. For the smaller lawns I've been using a Hayter Spirit 41 which weighs nothing, leaves decent stripes and is really easy to get in through gates/stight paths etc. At over £1k, the lawnflite needs to be working pretty hard to earn it's keep and if it's not suitable for most of your lawns perhaps the other options you mentioned are more suitable.

          Decisions, decisions.

This lawn was done with the Spirit 41 (just checked and it's £370 incl. VAT new).
