Green waste.

I got my waste carrying license as i want to be all above board etc and have all necessary documents. I arrived at my local tip and asked the guy there if they accept commercial waste. His reply was no. I said i was willing to pay do you not have a facility for green waste at all? He said 'i can't accept bribes'! I wasn't trying to bribe him but couldn't believe there was no facility so i rang the local council. They also said there was no council facility for green waste. I said would it not increase your recycling targets, reduce fly tipping and create a new revenue stream? He said yes but there isn't one. I was left baffled. I am licensed to carry waste but to nowhere in particular!

We too have the same issue with our local council site. Although there are obviously traders going in there, they are allowed (or a blind eye is turned) because they have no sign writing on their vans. It's a bit mad really.

Take a look through the recent posts as Phil is compiling a map of green waste sites.
  • I would think that this goes for most Local Council recycling yards. You will have to use a commercial green waste station as we have to. I would have thought that the guy you spoke to would have been more helpful and pointed you that way.

Our local Council tip is now closed to all on Thursdays! Even a year later, EVERY Thursday morning there is a queue of cars loaded with all sorts waiting to get in.

What postcode are do you operate in Adrian?

  • Many of the larger waste companies have their own recycling plants and accept trade and cash sales, so long as you have a waste licence. Most have a minimum fee of 1 tonne. Call them to see if they have a recycling plant and how close it is to you. One of my local companies pointed me in the direction of another local company that deals soley with green waste and clean soil/rubble. Their rates are for more favourable. Still need the licence and have to pay their fees.
  • It's hu17 Phill. Beverly.
  • Phil, Beverley even.
  • i take waste to a local skip firms yard and it's pretty much £20 everytime whatever size load it is. Have taken some real heavy concrete and soil stuff in that was £20, and some lighter pruning stuff that was too big for my customers green bins also £20. I suggest you try calling around local skip firms to you as they process waste and will no doubt be able to help you out.

  • Usually this is true if its "straight" IE all one type of waste, all green in one pile, rubble another, soil another, if its mixed then alot will charge you more, worth doing though.

East Riding do not operate a trade waste station of any kind. They seem to offer large commercial bin collection for businesses but that's not much good for regular garden waste. It must be a case of hunting around to find a solution. Asking other local operators what they do?

Commercial waste disposal provides a good example of councils operating systems for their own ease rather than putting the needs of their customers - the public and businesses - at the heart of what they do. The tips near me in Merseyside have recently reduced their operating hours from 9 to 5 to 9 to 3 which is very inconvenient when trying to plan jobs that might involve large volumes of waste. You have to start packing up about 1:30 in order to get there and get processed in time.
