  • Im not sure that the local councils even ask for a waste licence Robbie. My local one, Dungannon, is free and im in a few times a week and never been asked for my licence. Cookstown charged me £5 the last time I was in for a full 10' x 6' tipper trailer load, again never asked for a licence. Lurgan is £74 for a load, no licence shown there either. The Lurgan site is run for the council by a private firm. Belfast direction might be different.

Just been on to the licencing body, it's £130 for 3 years and allows you to carry any waste (unlike the rest of the UK)

  • they are issued by specific councils robbie.

I have mine for north down but i can't use it to dump in belfast. Or thats what i've been told when i tried.

  • mine nearly always ask people for their license. Why on earth would you not get one its incredible value. I got 600 quid of rebates when they came in.

the fact that i can dump rubble as well is invaluable when its a small amount and not enough to justify a skip

I phoned round all the local sites today, it is amazing the different answers I received.

I know that i require a licence regardless what the councils say...

I have been paying £40 per tonne for Newtownabbey and have been told that won't change even if i have one. (They don't require/ask for licence).

Larne council costs £60 per tonne (They don't require/ask for licence)

Belfast require you to have a license or they won't let you onto the property. They are going to get back to me regarding costs.

Bangor council requires a licence but lets you dump any green waste as long as it's from a 'domestic' property.

Antrim are going to get back to me next week.

Carrickfergus won't accept any waste if your in a commercial vehicle.

  • I have a license but I always dump in Bangor or comber/ards with no issues and depending who's working I don't even get asked for my license number . I tried to dump once in carryduff and they wouldn't let me dump .
  • I am the same niall. I use holywood mainly but go to bangor for rubble or if i'm working down there.

I was also turned away at carryduff with rubble and other belfast sites have told me no and i need a belfast license which i might get anayway for when i'm working in east belfast.

I was also turned away at ards because it is a different council to north down

I can catagorically say that once you have a license you shouldn't have to pay anything anywhere. This is perfect for me as you can throw in a bag and have no minimum charge.

  • Things definitely seem a bit more relaxed down here west of the Bann!

  • Simon the one thing Ards ask for is a form stating where the waste has come from and you have to give to them every time they keep a copy and so do you.

I'm from Comber but I have no problem using Bangor so I don't see why you should have any problems from Ards.

I could email a copy of the form to you if you like?.

  • Its ok i have the forms thanks.

Once your licensed in theory you have to do a waste transfer note every time you use any dump. bangor and holywood have the arrangement where i just do it once a year and they date it for the whole year.

I'll maybe enquire next time i'm over there. cheers
