  • hi Harry been using my MSA200  today pruning birch trees, I don't know if the motor on these is geared up for a bigger bar/chain than that supplied with it? it's quite a narrow micro type chain whereas the MSA220 has a chunkier one

Ah got it, I thought that might be the case buddy, just wanted to check, thank you

      • was just a semi educated guess really Harry but I would doubt it is feasible. Such a great machine had a brand new chain on mine this morning as they were treasured trees from the clients sadly missed mother so cuts had to be absolutely bang on and taking out only certain branches from clusters very close together

I thought this would be the case. I was working with mine all day today, every time I use this little saw it amazes me, it's been an awesome purchase..

          • yes had mine about 5 years now i think, I bought the MSA220 recently, but for neat pruning jobs the 200 with the narrow kerf chain is much better suited, and has got enough go in it for a bit of light logging up, the 220 is a different beast altogether. I was combining the 200 today with HTA85 pole saw for the high level sawable stuff and a Gardena telescopic pruner where you pull the string for the flimsier twigs

I might take a look at the 220 for the heavier cutting, I'm 100% never going back to petrol on the chainsaw/strimmer/Hedgecutter front, it's just so much nicer working battery, although it does give you a false sense of (it won't cut my leg off) security, if your not careful 🤣

              • Stihl are bringing out the MSA300 now also ! But the 220 is scary enough for me. Especially with a full chisel chain. I have a large Makita petrol saw and a smaller Hitachi one in the shed, not used for years because I was using an 80 Volt Greenworks battery one for the felling/logging. Not huge massive trees but clearing the occasional medium one for firewood etc, up to 18 inches diameter, 30 foot tall Ash etc. The MSA220 is a definite step up from the MSA200, they are chalk and cheese really
