Stihl Cordless Mower RMA448TC

Evening AllI am looking at picking up one of these to run alongside my Izys. I use these for any of the jobs where access is difficult for the roller mowers, up steps, over walls etc. I wondered has anyone on here taken the leap. I already use much of the Stihl cordless range so have the batteries and don't want to accumulate another battery range. Any advice gratefully received.

Yes we have for a number of years, we have a number of bad access jobs and easier than getting the Honda pro down steps etc. Not as good as the ego mower and slower but saves time/grief!

  • I have one, they are not the lightest cordless mower to be fair, but not too bad for a quick lift. I find it better than most battery machines on wet grass, with good power and collection. I only use mine with the eco switch turned off as the rising and falling blade speed in that setting irritated me. So it uses more battery power that way, but I have several of the high capacity packs so can live with that. I bought mine because I had the Viking MA443 cordless one before that, which was good but not self drive. Although the drive on the RMA448TC is single speed and sometimes too fast on a tough area. The height settings are unusual in that it is 2.5cm, 3.5cm, 4.5cm and so on; rather than 2, 3, 4 cm etc but suits certain lawns at different stages of growth. I am not keen on the mono style handle as it feels loose but it's convenient to be able to fold it down

  • there is a thread on the 'professional' wing of the forum about this!  A helpful Stihl dealer may allow you to use a demo one.

  • Thanks for the replies. I did see that thread, Tim, but it isn't too specific on the 448.

  • yes unless the body building type, would probably find the 448 a bit on the heavy side for lifting over many walls or up more than a few steps, single handedly at least. I lift mine onto the back of the truck with one swift movement but it's not something I would want to carry

  • Just ordered the 448 VC. Plus an extra battery.

I buckled the blade last week on my Weibang 48 on a hidden metal post in a new clients garden. Knowhere has them in stock, I have ordered from my usual supplier but it's a 'it will arrive when it arrives' situation like most stuff these days. I was thinking of getting a 2nd machine anyway but now my hand has been forced a little. I picked up a mountfield mower at screwfix this week to get me through this weeks jobs. What a pile of crap lol, it's going back as soon as the Stihl arrives!

I will let you all know how the new machine goes.

    • Nice one the "VC" being the new variable drive speed type as opposed to the previous single speed model
