Back in the gardening saddle again

Phew, where has the year gone?

I have recently been in the dying thoes of an edit on my next book Evergreen Plants, which will be released on Amazon et al in March 2012.So look out for it won't you? And did I mention my Border Plants book was shortlisted for Best Reference Book of the Year 2010. Will I top that with Evergreen Plants I wonder?

With the demise of this duty, I can now switch my undivided attention back to our landscape design practice,  http://www.theopengardencompany.co.uk/

I  can now get back to designing beautiful gardens once again for our clients in the South east. Not that we ever stopped. It's just that I've had to limit my time. However Mark Lockhart my fellow director is very capable and we discuss every detail as we go, books or not. Actually though typically we work in Surrey West Sussex and London, this year we've spent a fair amount of time in the Mediterranean  designing some wonderful gardens and using all those plants we never get to play with in the UK because they are non-hardy.

Somebody in our small, but cheery office reminded me that that every single one of our lovely garden design clients found us by personal recommendation. It is always a minefield advertising your services as a landscape design company isn't it?

At the expense of a little smuggery, we think that's rather an accolade!

"Hi Karsten, yes I meant a 2D graphic in plan view, saved as a  component so I can generate a report to get the right quantities.  I know what you mean about the 2D face-me graphics, they are an irritation and move around from where you’ve placed the…"

"Hi Jane,
Yes, the Garden Planner is truly a simple software compared to Sketchup (I like to call it Ketchup! ((~8). I can easily see why you wouldn't use it after getting established with Sketchup. I wouldn't even say it has plant lists, just genera…"

"Yes Nicola, who wouldn't hanker after Vectorworks ((~8When you say a 2D plant graphic, do you mean 2D in plan view? This Garden Planner, I'm discovering, is relatively simple, but really seems to go right to the limits of its simplicity. What I like…"

"Hi again Karsten,
I've just had a look at the Garden Planner.  A nice simple tool.. But I am too far down the line with Sketchup to get this.  I was looking to have one that produced a plant list, but this has too few plants.  You can build up a lib…"

"Hello Karsten,
I too hanker after Vectorworks but use Sketchup.. If you have a sketch of a design you want to put in 3D you can import a jpg of your drawing into Sketchup.  If it's to scale you make the faces 'Xray' and draw over the sketch, then us…"

"Hi Karsten, I’m a garden designer and I use SketchUp, it’s really a good tool for the job (although I hanker after Vectorworks). You can switch between views really easily, especially if you set up ‘scenes’ in the model, which is very simple to do.…"
