As the mowing season has drawn to a close, I am thinking about a new mower for next season. I have now narrowed it down to 3 machines, either Weibang or Honda. I appreciate there have been lots of posts on here regarding the best mowers and associated excellent advice. I have always been impressed with the quality of Honda, but, Weibang is always there in the back of my mind. Before speaking to my local dealer the other day, I was going to either go for the Weibang 53 ASD BBC for about £1350 or the Honda HRX 537 for roughly the same price. Both have excellent decks. The dealer suggested the Weibang 53 SSD with its steel deck and non BBC for £849. He suggested that this is the machine a lot of contractors use and the advantage of non BBC is that it is much cheaper to repair. I could get the BBC with a steel deck for an extra £100. Other than a steel deck and non BBC, there is very little difference. The advantage of an aluminium deck is that it does not rust. For a domestic mower, which is used peredoically, this would be great. I am now thinking commercially and I think if I can get 3 years out of a machine, I've done well. In 3 years, it is unlikely the steel deck would rust. In a way, I have answered my question of should I go for the SSD or ASD. Unless, I have missed something that you good folks could point me to. Alternatively, should I completely forget about Weibang and go for the Honda?
As always, I welcome you advice.

My Honda HRX 537 has been amazing this season. Surprisingly, one of my favourite features is the 'chute' to mulch or bag. My least favourite feature is the individual height adjusters. I can disengage the blade without having to turn it off. I can't comment on the other ones you mentioned.
Thanks. I must admit, I liked the concept of the Chute. I mulched a customers property for the first time this season and was impressed. I also agree with you about individual height adjusters. I have this on my old Honda and it is a pain. Central adjuster is much easier.
It would be the 537 all day long for me, very very reliable mower, won't rust but if you a good enough stone it will crack the deck but this easily fixed with epoxy resin. The fact you can go from nag to mulch or anywhere in-between with just a lever is a brilliant design.
Had a legacy pro roller. It lasted a year before I had to spend a fortune fixing it - it didn't have a warranty with it. Was immediately sold on. I have a 537 4 wheeler , just done over 300 hours in 3 years on it ( I have hour meters on all my push mowers) it's been no trouble in that time at all and it's like new. Perfect for discreet mulching when I should be collecting. Will buy another in a heartbeat
Great to hear good reviews about the Honda. It's all very well listening to the sales staff. However, they don't actually use the mowers and to hear views of people who have actually used them is refreshing.
As you have probably seen on the forum we are big Honda HRX 537 HY fans, run 3 commercially. All are coming upto their fourth season and are used for no less than 30 hrs /wk , apart from blades have not touched them, would not buy anything else.
What do we like? Light and manouverable, variable speed hydrostatic drive, BBC, go first pull everytime. Can swap from collect to mulch instantly. They are just a really nice mower to use day in day out.
We did have a Weibang 53 ASD BBC on demo , just too heavy, cumbersome with non of the flexibility of the Honda, I do wonder at the so called build quality, have a look at their reviews on Trustpilot.
Anyway think you know our opinion, if you buy the Honda get the HY not the VY and run the back wheels one notch higher than the front for best mulch or collection performance. As to the height adjusters we leave the back set permananently on 3 and vary the front from either 2 or 1.5 depending on use. Think your dealer said it all " go for the Wiebang non bbc as it's easier to repair" ! Really!
Let us know your decision.
I bought the VY and I really like it! But thumbs do feel it after a while, especially when doing lawns that take 1hr plus. It's probabaly a lot slower taking off /accelerating but once you're off, no problems. Peter have a lot of experience, I'd go with his recommendation
Sounds like a big yes for the Honda. I had the side discharge model at the strat of the season with VY and to be honest, couldn't get on with out. As pointed out, after an hour, the thumbs felt it. To be honest, I felt it was just a gimmick and much prefer the traditional set up as on the HY. Unless there are some great arguments for the Weibang, I'm going to opt for the Honda. 3 machines that are gloing into their fourth season says it all to me.
Thanks everyone for your time.
Mines the vy version, bought because that's all the dealer had at the time, I've had no problems. Had hy before .
You won't regret either
Hi James
I have a honda 537 and a weibang 53asd. Non bbc
First the weibang, nearly 2 years old, no problems with it. Highlift blade packs the bag and leaves a great finish. Mulch blade in the right conditions also leaves a faultless finish.
Have to swap the blades.
I would recommend this mower it has been great.
Now the Honda, had for 18 months, broken drive, broken axel. For the scrap heap. Disappointing however when working it was a great mower. Switching from collect to mulch with the lever is brilliant. Finish was good and lovely to use and manoeuvre. I will more than likely buy another one to replace this one and hope it lasts longer.
I would recommend this mower but maybe not as reliable as the weibangs
