Wood disposal

Would be grateful of advice regarding how people dispose of old wood?  We have a large build up of old fence panels/pallets/2x4 wood lengths etc.  We usually get a 40 yard roll on roll off skip every so often to dispose of but prices are through the roof at the moment.  Is there any other way of getting rid of it? Any tips of what you all do would be great!  Thanks

  • Matches work well! If you've got transport a lot of the privately run green waste facilities will take it ours does. Some will supply a skip/ trailer for you to load, not sure if this will be cheaper than a general waste skip.

  • Try Facebook Marketplace or local Facebook group (other social media platforms are available!), there are always people after kindling wood.

As Peter said. You are charging for waste removal? That should cover your costs and make you some profit.

  • Thanks for all the comments, it's a wood only waste skip so it does get recycled in some way so that's one good thing!  And we do charge for waste removal, just wanted to see if there were any other options as the price of the 40yarder has doubled since the last time we did it!  I'll do some shopping around I think, Thanks

  • Firewood. I have a log burner [obviously all my wood/logs are free to me] and it has saved me a fortune over the winter. If you can't burn it yourself then why not chop it up and sell it in bulk bags.
