My mate has the Stihl RM655RS and loves it. Good finish and excellent in the wet. His only negative is the mono handle as he's not sure on the longevity of it but so far so good.
I have the pro Hayter 41 which is excellent in the dry but bobbins in the wet. When it's wet I use the cheaper Stihl RM545VR which is great in the wet but nowere near robust enough for all day every day use.
Cant fault my stihl 655 rs, fantastic in all conditions, needed speeding up from factory though
How long have you had it? Any problems? They dont seem to make things last any more my old sarp was 30yrs when I retired it my father-in-law now has it past its best but still going. Getting a stihl on demo hopefully this week 18months seems to be the limit to mowers now
Another vote for the Stihl RM655RS, awesome mower and everything has been upgraded since switch over from Viking, eats wet grass with no issues, totally on par with my Etesia pro 46's...
How long have you had it for? And roller issues? I run etesia pro51k as well got it 2014 and it still runs like the first day I got it not cheap new but cheap for what you get compared with everything else I have had.
I've had mine around 5 months, no roller or drive issues to report, it feels solid and sharp. I think Stihl have done an awesome job at fixing all the issues the Vikings had. I am over the moon with it as I was unsure if i should take the gamble, but tbh I need a mower that will cut in all conditions and this fits the bill, since owning I have not turned up to any jobs wondering if mower will cope with the wet grass, it works awesomely in dry or wet conditions. The only thing I will say is I'm an owner operator so I take care of my machines.
Saw on stihl website 2 complaints that you loose drive on the lowest setting is that correct? Also the setting up from lowest is a big jump in height? Sorry for all the questions my Cobra died and got to pick between the stihl and a weibang tomorrow and still a bit unsure
Hello buddy,
the jump up from setting number 2-3 is a touch hi, they could have put in half settings which would help, but I don't like to scalpe my lawns, most of mine get cut on number 2. I have cut on number 1 on one of my completely flat lawns and it's done absolutely fine, I've had no loss of drive at all on any setting.
For me the weight of the weibang was too heavy, I had a pro 46 with bbc and sold it. I'm not sure what size your looking at with the weibang but if it's got a BBC then the blade is not a particularly high lift unless things have changed in the past year, only the non BBC weibangs have a true high lift blade.
Ask as many questions as you like mate, I was completely unsure what to go for before I brought the Stihl , but I had already decided against having the Hayter, Honda, Cobra, John Deere, Kubota and the Weibang having previously owned all of them, I had to try something different, I had also owned the Viking variant of the Stihl 655 RS and the wet collection was awesome, but the drive was constantly breaking, so in my mind if Stihl had sorted all the issues ( which they have) then I had to give it a go...
It's the 56pro BBC I was looking at but no demo machine to try. The only thing I'm unsure of is the same with both machines that they are single height adjustment and I usually run high at the front and lower on the roller for when it's a mossy lawn. Any issues with that on the stihl? Again I haven't had a demo of that either as it's out for 2 weeks
