Which front page layout?

LJN has two front pages. One page is visible to those logged-in and then there's a second front page to everyone else.

We're still getting used to the new LJN and I expect further changes going forward.

I'd like to get your thoughts on what you feel works best.....

Maybe keep both but add the BOG somewhere as a box to click as well as at the top.

I like the one we see when logged in, didn't realise there was a different one if you are not logged in.

Agh! I've just realised I haven't made it clear what order they appear in/

This is the non-logged in page:

I prefer the non-logged in page. Its brigher, more grapical and catches the eye better and showcases LJN projects & photos (which are not 'stock photos' as has been inferred)...

    • Ok, you've called me out...

The beautiful, highly professional pictures taking up 30% on the front page might not be stock shots. But they certainly aren't amateur pics of my latest lawn cut!

Inferred (your word), the perfect pictures could be from anywhere. They aren't obviously member's recent projects, and do we need recent projects to take up 30% of the home page even if they are genuinely recent work?

Why don't you get some 'work' pictures, do a blog or similar, put them up then you've no problems !

If you clicked on them, they'd actually show you what it relates to and perhaps you would then see how powerful that is ?

Using LJN is as easy or hard as you want to make it. Only you can "make" it happen.....

        • OK, Gary. I've tried to explain that all I need, and want, is a gardener's forum with no extra "bling".

I honestly don't have anything to compete with those images. The stock shots of wonderful granite landscape projects, and clearly not in the UK, I don't need to see them, and just want a forum that's full-page without the pictures?

I'm clearly out of step with your view of how LJN needs to progress, so let's leave it at that. I don't know how to blog, don't care about it, and it's a step backwards if I try to spend work time on it for no return. None of my clients has asked me to blog more often or they'll find a new contractor? It's the emporer's new clothes...

My business can't progress through me posting boring pictures of my average, profitable work, but new guys coming in to the industry could learn from us old-timers.I wish that hadn't been lost, but it was never going to pay. That help for new starters might need a voluntary forum.

I can't keep arguing about it so let's leave it unless you want to pick the feckin' phone up and explain how this new site has improved anything?

I do appreciate that LJN has moved on to new markets. That's fair enough.

Paul, feel free to call me tomorrow or meet for a coffee & chat (I'm over your way soon at some sites ).

They are LJN pictures, LJN Blogs/News or LJN Member projects. The granite pictures are from Jez's project in Wales. Click thru and take a look. Most are from within the last 1 or 2 months.

Of course your/our businesses can progress buy demonstrating our skills (in fact someone uploaded pictures of a garden tidy today..), but it needs to come from within.

Some great pictures from the 'maintenance' side of the industry on LJN:

  • i prefer the non logged in page too. the other is a little to busy. site looks very up todate with trends. good job phil
